Turmeric is probably best known for its use as an anti-inflammatory supplement in horses, making it popular for use with horses and ponies suffering from arthritis and other conditions relating to lameness. It reduces inflammation and pain as the curcumin reduces the inflammatory pathways in the body through its ability to inhibit the cyclooxygenase enzyme 2 (COX-2), whilst maintaining COX-1 enzymatic function.
Green Tea the list of health benefits derived from this simple source is quite amazing it has amazing properties which are beneficial to animals and humans alike. Substances in green tea known as polyphenols may play an important role in the prevention of cancer.
Celery can benefit if aches and pains are brought on by weather changes remarkable studies show the efficacy of celery seed for reducing the pain and inflammation of osteo/ rheumatoid arthritis.
Chia seeds contain natural antioxidants known as chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, myricetin and quercetin that may act towards neutralizing damaging free radicals, which can thereby help reduce pain, inflammation and vulnerability toward disease.
Fennel Seed is a wonderful digestive herb. Its taste is that of a slight anise, licorice taste. It is a member of the parsley family. It looks very much like dill. The parts that are really used are the seeds, leaves and the roots. It is a superb stomach and intestinal remedy used in cases of flatulence and colic and gastric upset
Mint has a cooling, soothing and anesthetic effect on the smooth muscles of the stomach and intestines, which makes it one of the key herbs to choose when dealing with horses prone to colic, gastric or duodenal ulceration, smooth muscle spasm, trapped gas, digestive cramping or poor appetite as an appitite stimulant. It also contains a natural source of rosmarinic acid, a natural compound that has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

A PainSolution

Over the course of their lives, horse and Ponies will experience pain for a variety of reasons and with differing levels of intensity. As much as we’d like to prevent our horse or pony suffering altogether, experiencing pain it is a crucial part of their developmental well-being. Just like with humans, pain acts as a biological alert mechanism to let the horse or pony know when something is wrong.

Without this important mechanism, horses and ponies would likely over-strain themselves more frequently or ignore serious injuries. That being said, there’s no reason any living being should suffer through intense pain in the long-term, especially when relief-providing remedies are so naturally abundant.
Some common sources of chronic and/or intermittent pain for horses and ponies can include soft tissue injuries due to overexertion, osteoarthritis and other joint-related diseases. There’s a lot of debate about how to best manage pain when treating horses or ponies. Some owners rely on over-the-counter medications prescribed by equine health professionals (vets) while others prefer natural remedies such as herbs. Depending on the source and intensity of your horse or ponies pain, either option could provide adequate relief and assist with treatment and recovery.

A HealthSolution
We all want our animals to be healthy and happy, we do as much as we can in our day to day lives to maintain that, animal behaviour is a significant factor in determining an animal’s health. Normal healthy animal behavior includes an animal who stays within their group (if they live within a group) with eyes that are bright with a moist nose without discharge, no wounds, and is eating normally. Some animals are very good at hiding when they are feeling under the weather but we can look out for signs such as them being irritable, listless, lame, have a temperature are away from the group on their own not eating or drinking etc.....
Several factors can play a part in an animal’s health. Some of these include what they are fed are they getting enough vitamins and minerals and where their feed maybe stored, water quality, pasture condition, types of plants the animal has access too and even weather conditions. Vitamins and mineral supplements whether they be from herbs, seeds or artificial may help improve the efficiency of energy utilization and can be of great benefit to animals.
